Marple is called upon to solve her most perplexing case yet. Upon his death, financier John Rafiel asks her to solve a murder. It soon becomes obvious that others on the tour were also "selected" by Mr. Rafiel. Jane Marple, assisted by her nephew Raymond West, concludes that the case must be related to that of Verity Hunt, a young woman who in 1939 was running away from an overattentive landlord and eventually disappeared. When a member of the tour dies mysteriously, she also realizes that someone is desperate to keep a deep, dark secret.
Apart for 5 years, a group of friends from high school reconnect by throwing a party. A shocking discovery the next morning pits them against each other, tests their friendship and challenges their morality.

After Aditya Roy, the Assistant Editor of a magazine, suffers a heart attack for a third time, his wife, Leela, has him taken by ambulance to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, where he is placed in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit. While she anxiously awaits the prognosis, she meets with the wife, Shirin, and son, Altaf, of yet another patient, Shaukat Ali, an underworld gangster, who has suffered his first heart attack. Both women are drawn to each other in their sorrow and despair knowing fully well that their spouses may not live for long, and both may not be ready to accept the changes that are yet to come in their respective lives.
